Introduction

Following an exploratory meeting between the Librarians of the three Public Library Authorities in the County (East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire) and of the University of Paisley, the Forum came into being in the autumn of 1998. Membership was extended to all those bodies which had expressed an interest as well as to those with which the University of Paisley Library was already collaborating, including Kilmarnock and Ayr Colleges and the Hospital Library Services.

The aims and objectives of the Forum are set out in its mission statement. It operates as a fairly loose partnership with members able to participate as much or as little as they wish. Meetings are held regularly (approximately monthly) at members' premises; all members receive reports of the meetings and any other documents.

Membership is open to any library or related information organisation operating within the county and which wishes to participate in the partnership and so help the Forum fulfill its objectives.
